What does elevated serum alkaline phosphatase mean?
Disease description:
Two days ago, during a routine health check-up at the hospital, I was told that my serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) level was elevated. However, I haven’t experienced any discomfort recently—could you please explain what this means?
Hello,
Elevated alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels can occur following various liver disorders. An increased ALP level often indicates hepatic abnormalities and may be associated with conditions such as hepatic cysts, hepatic tuberculosis, obstructive jaundice, secondary (metastatic) liver cancer, or primary liver cancer.
Elevated ALP may also signal bone-related diseases, including osteomalacia, the healing phase of fractures, osteosarcoma, or bone metastases from malignant tumors.
Additionally, elevated ALP levels may be seen in leukemia and hyperthyroidism.
I hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you good health!
