What does photophobia mean?
Disease description:
Recently, I've been feeling dizzy and anxious when exposed to bright light. I looked it up online and found this is called photophobia. May I ask what does photophobia mean?
Photophobia generally refers to sensitivity to light, characterized by eye pain or discomfort and an unwillingness to open the eyes when exposed to light. It is a common ophthalmic symptom indicating that the eyes cannot tolerate light stimulation. For instance, light that was previously well-tolerated may suddenly cause discomfort and difficulty keeping the eyes open. Numerous eye conditions can cause photophobia, including common ones such as corneal foreign bodies, trichiasis, keratitis, and conjunctivitis. Effective treatment requires addressing the underlying cause; only after eliminating the root cause can the symptom of photophobia gradually improve and eventually resolve.
