Normal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure is influenced by various factors, including body position, body weight, head position, respiration, heartbeat, blood pressure, cerebral blood flow, and CSF absorption and drainage. Normally, CSF pressure ranges between 10–20 mmHg, although it may vary under different conditions. For example, changes in head position can alter CSF pressure, and increased body weight may also affect it. Furthermore, changes in blood flow—either an increase or decrease—can influence CSF pressure, which is another important cause of CSF pressure fluctuations.
