Brushing teeth is not recommended within the first two days after tooth extraction. Following the procedure, gums may become inflamed and bleeding may occur in the periodontal pocket; therefore, brushing should be avoided during the healing period. After tooth extraction, both the mouth and teeth are traumatized, and the gums may bleed. Brushing can increase irritation to the gums, potentially leading to ulcers and impairing gum healing. Additionally, there is usually some discomfort after extraction, which may be aggravated by brushing and could negatively affect recovery. Within the first two days after tooth extraction, rinsing the mouth with warm water is advisable to help reduce bacterial growth. After extraction, patients should follow their dentist's instructions, maintain regular oral hygiene as directed, eat mild and soft foods, and take proper care to promote oral healing.
