The risks of double eyelid surgery in old age
In general, if double eyelid surgery is successful and recovery goes well, it will not cause serious harm in old age, but certain issues may arise.
Regarding surgical outcomes, as one ages, the skin gradually becomes loose and ages, and the eye area is no longer an exception. For individuals who have undergone double eyelid surgery, laxity of the upper eyelid skin may worsen over time. The original double eyelid shape may change—such as becoming narrower or shallower—or even develop multiple folds, affecting the aesthetic appearance of the eyes.
In terms of surgical trauma, double eyelid surgery causes some degree of tissue injury around the eyes, which may lead to scarring during the healing process. In younger people, scars may be less noticeable due to better skin elasticity. However, with aging and reduced skin elasticity, these scars may become more apparent. This is particularly true for individuals with a predisposition to scarring, in whom this issue may be more pronounced.
