Effect of Banxia (Arisaema with胆)

Baitianxing (Arisaema cum Bile) has the functions of clearing heat and resolving phlegm, as well as extinguishing wind and stopping spasms. It can be used clinically to treat conditions such as wind-phlegm disturbing upward or internal disturbance due to phlegm-heat. Baitianxing has a bitter and pungent taste, a cool nature, and is associated with the lung and liver meridians. Due to its cold property, it effectively clears heat and is beneficial in treating symptoms caused by excessive heat-toxin and upward attack of wind-fire, such as dizziness, vertigo, restlessness, convulsions, and muscle spasms. It should be used under the guidance of a physician; self-medication without supervision should be avoided to prevent adverse effects. Moreover, because Baitianxing is bitter and cold in nature, it may impair the spleen and stomach. Therefore, individuals with deficiency-cold of the spleen and stomach should avoid prolonged use. If any discomfort occurs during treatment, discontinue the medication immediately and seek medical attention at a hospital.
