Pediatric height calculation formula
Disease description:
Pediatric height calculation formula
The average length of a newborn baby is 50 cm, and by age 1, they grow to about 75 cm. However, this growth over the first year is not uniform: during the first three months, babies typically grow 11–13 cm; in the following nine months, they grow another 11–13 cm. Therefore, growth and development are very rapid during the first year of life. For children over 2 years old, there is a formula used to estimate growth: traditionally, it was age × 5 + 75 (cm). However, with continuous improvements in living standards, children today are significantly taller than in the past. Thus, an alternative formula—age × 7 + 75—can be applied earlier in childhood. After age 8, however, the traditional formula (age × 5 + 75) becomes more appropriate. Growth rates vary depending on geographical location and nutritional status, and there are two peak periods of development: one during the first year of life when growth is extremely rapid, and another during puberty, around ages 13 to 14, which represents another phase of rapid growth.
