My poor eating habits led to gallbladder disease, and my gallbladder has been surgically removed. Could you please tell me what effects a cholecystectomy might have?

Gallbladder removal leads to a reduced ability to digest fats. The gallbladder primarily stores bile, which plays a key role in digesting fatty foods and promoting the absorption of fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins. Therefore, after gallbladder removal, the body's ability to digest fats is affected. Without a gallbladder, consuming high-fat foods may cause indigestion, leading to symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, and diarrhea. It is recommended that patients follow an easily digestible, low-fat diet after gallbladder surgery, avoiding greasy foods such as fatty meats, fried foods, barbecued items, animal fats, organ meats, and hot pot broth. Overeating, alcohol consumption, and remaining sedentary after meals should also be avoided; light physical activity after eating is advisable.
