Is a woman's heart on the left or right side?
Disease description:
Is a woman's heart on the left or right side?
A woman's heart is located in the center of the chest cavity, slightly to the left, just as in men. This leftward shift relative to the midline of the chest occurs because the left lung occupies part of the space within the thoracic cavity. In both males and females, the heart is situated centrally within the chest; however, due to anatomical differences, the heart is positioned slightly to the left of the chest's midline. Women are advised to have regular cardiac health checkups, including monitoring of blood pressure, blood lipids, and blood glucose levels. If symptoms of heart discomfort occur—such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, or palpitations—prompt medical attention should be sought for professional cardiac evaluation and treatment.
