Causes of Elevated Direct Bilirubin
Disease description:
I am 37 years old. During a routine physical examination, my bilirubin level was found to be elevated. I would like to know the possible causes of elevated direct (conjugated) bilirubin.
Hello, elevated bilirubin levels may result from the following causes:
1. Hepatocyte injury impairs the normal conversion of bilirubin into bile or obstructs bile excretion, leading to increased direct (conjugated) bilirubin.
2. Obstruction of intrahepatic or extrahepatic bile ducts can cause elevated direct bilirubin.
3. Liver damage may also result in increased direct bilirubin.
I hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you a happy and healthy life!
