Hello, elevated bilirubin levels may result from the following causes:
1. Hepatocyte injury impairs the normal conversion of bilirubin into bile or obstructs bile excretion, leading to increased direct (conjugated) bilirubin.
2. Obstruction of intrahepatic or extrahepatic bile ducts can cause elevated direct bilirubin.
3. Liver damage may also result in increased direct bilirubin.
