In general, the formation of breast fibroadenomas is associated with changes in estrogen levels, and women with higher estrogen levels are more likely to develop this condition. Factors such as breast trauma, breast inflammation, and breast duct dilation may also contribute to the development of fibroadenomas. The formation process of breast fibroadenoma can be divided into three stages: hyperplasia, proliferation, and regression. During the hyperplasia stage, breast tissue begins to proliferate in response to stimulation, leading to thickening of the connective and glandular tissues within the breast. In the proliferation stage, these proliferated tissues continue to grow, forming a lump. In the regression stage, the lump gradually shrinks and eventually becomes a breast fibroadenoma. Fibroadenomas are usually solitary, but multiple tumors can occur simultaneously. They can range in size from several millimeters to several centimeters and are typically round or oval in shape. The growth rate of fibroadenomas is generally very slow, although they may grow more rapidly during periods of significant hormonal fluctuations. If a breast fibroadenoma is detected, prompt medical evaluation is recommended.
