Transmission routes of pertussis
Disease description:
Transmission routes of pertussis
Pertussis is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by Bordetella pertussis, primarily transmitted through airborne droplets. When infected individuals cough or sneeze, droplets containing Bordetella pertussis are released into the air. If healthy individuals inhale these droplets, they may become infected. The bacteria typically multiply in the nasopharynx of the human body, leading to a range of symptoms including severe coughing, sputum production, and difficulty breathing.
