What is gallbladder adenomyosis?
Recently, I've been having frequent abdominal pain. After an examination, I was diagnosed with gallbladder adenomyomatosis. Could you please tell me, doctor, what is gallbladder adenomyomatosis?
Cholecystitis adenomyomatosis, also known as adenomyoma of the gallbladder, is a benign gallbladder condition. Its main features include thickening of the muscular layer of the gallbladder wall and the formation of Rokitansky-Aschoff sinuses. Patients are often asymptomatic, but in some cases may experience symptoms similar to cholecystitis, such as right upper abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Diagnosis of adenomyomatosis primarily relies on imaging studies, including ultrasound, CT scans, or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In terms of treatment, asymptomatic patients are usually managed with regular observation. For patients with significant symptoms or severe lesions, surgical removal of the gallbladder may be necessary.
Patients should also maintain healthy lifestyle habits and a balanced diet, which can help prevent the development and progression of gallbladder adenomyomatosis.
