What are Sanfu Patches?
Disease description:
I went for moxibustion today, and the staff there recommended that I try the Sanfu贴 (Sanfu Patch). What is the Sanfu Patch?
Sanfu Patch is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy typically administered during the hottest days of summer, known as the "three fu periods." Based on the principle of "treating winter diseases in summer," this method involves applying specially formulated herbal ointments directly onto specific acupoints of the body. The patches stimulate these points, unblock meridians, and regulate qi and blood flow, thereby helping to prevent and treat certain chronic conditions. The main ingredients include traditional Chinese herbs such as ginger, white mustard seed, musk, and fineleaf schizonepeta root, which exert mild chemical and thermal stimulation on the acupoints. This helps regulate the circulation of qi and blood and enhances the body's immune function. Sanfu Patch is primarily used to prevent and manage respiratory disorders that commonly flare up in autumn, such as allergic rhinitis, pharyngitis, and chronic bronchitis, as well as to alleviate joint pain and muscle soreness caused by dampness. When using Sanfu Patches, attention should be paid to the duration of application and skin reactions to avoid prolonged use or excessive irritation. Additionally, special populations such as pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children should use the treatment with caution.
