What is hyperopic amblyopia?
Disease description:
My vision has always been poor, and I've always thought it was myopia. Today, after an examination, I found out it's hyperopic amblyopia. What is hyperopic amblyopia?
Hyperopic amblyopia is a common eye condition in children, primarily occurring in those with moderate to high hyperopia or severe irregular astigmatism. Due to hyperopia, the eye fails to receive sufficient visual image stimulation on the retina, resulting in inadequate visual development and leading to amblyopia. The condition is characterized by reduced visual acuity that cannot be corrected with standard optical lenses, as well as abnormal visual function, including impaired visual development in one eye and disrupted binocular vision functions such as simultaneous perception, fusion, and stereopsis. Treatment for hyperopic amblyopia mainly involves optical correction with glasses and supplementary therapies, such as fine visual training and visual stimulation exercises, to improve the child's visual acuity. Additionally, regular ophthalmic examinations, a balanced diet, and adequate rest play important roles in both prevention and treatment of hyperopic amblyopia.
