How is pinworm infection treated?
The treatment of pinworm infection mainly includes the following:
1. General measures: Maintain local hygiene and cleanliness. Underwear should be soaked in boiling water or steam-treated and then sun-dried to kill pinworms. Avoid touching the anal area with hands to prevent reinfection.
2. Oral medication: Commonly used drugs include mebendazole, pyrvinium embonate, and albendazole. These medications inhibit glucose uptake in the worms, depriving them of energy and thereby achieving a deworming effect.
3. Topical treatment around the anus: Wash the anal area with soapy water every morning, then apply 2% mercury ammonium chloride ointment locally to kill worms and relieve itching. If necessary, pyrantel pamoate suppositories may be inserted into the rectum for treatment.
