Symptoms and Management of Digitalis Toxicity
Disease description:
I feel unwell today after taking digitalis. What are the symptoms and management of digitalis toxicity?
Digitalis toxicity mainly manifests as gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea; neurological symptoms including headache, dizziness, and confusion; and cardiac arrhythmias, such as atrioventricular block. In management, the drug should be discontinued immediately. For mild cases, oral medications such as diuretics may be administered to promote urination and facilitate the elimination of the toxin. In severe cases, intravenous fluid therapy is required, along with medications such as procaine hydrochloride injection to alleviate symptoms. Close monitoring of vital signs is essential, and supportive treatment should be provided when necessary. It is important to note that prompt management of digitalis toxicity is crucial to prevent disease progression.
