My boyfriend had a fever this morning. When I was boiling water for him at noon today, I accidentally scalded my hand. The burn is now very noticeable. I'd like to know what the best way is to treat a scald injury?

After a burn injury, the following measures should be taken immediately to ensure proper wound management: 1. Move away from the heat source: Quickly remove yourself from the source of the burn, such as hot water or flames, to prevent further injury. 2. Rinse with cool water: Flush the affected area with cool running water for at least 20 minutes to reduce skin temperature and alleviate pain. 3. Remove clothing: If the burned area is covered by clothing, gently remove the garments as soon as possible to prevent them from adhering to the wound. 4. Local treatment: For mild burns, apply burn ointment locally and cover with a dressing. If blisters develop, seek medical attention; the blisters may need to be drained professionally and anti-inflammatory ointment applied. 5. Seek prompt medical care: In cases of severe burns—such as those involving extensive blistering or broken skin—immediately go to the hospital for professional evaluation and treatment.
