Can you have sex after a hysterectomy?
Due to uterine fibroids, the condition was quite severe at the time of examination, and the doctor recommended surgical treatment. My uterus has already been removed, and I've now fully recovered. I would like to know whether it's possible to have sexual intercourse after a hysterectomy.
After a hysterectomy, sexual intercourse is usually possible. Since intercourse takes place in the vagina, and a hysterectomy involves removal of the endometrium and uterine muscle layer without affecting the vagina, it generally does not impact sexual activity. However, shortly after surgery, due to physical weakness and unhealed surgical wounds, it is not recommended to resume intercourse immediately, as this could interfere with recovery and increase the risk of infection.
In general, women with conditions such as uterine fibroids or adenomyosis who do not wish to have children may consider undergoing a hysterectomy. Although the uterus is removed, the vagina remains intact, so sexual activity is theoretically unaffected. Because individual circumstances vary, some women may experience decreased libido or difficulty achieving orgasm after surgery. These issues may be related to psychological factors or potential surgical complications.
A hysterectomy typically does not affect the ability to have intercourse, but it is important to ensure proper postoperative recovery, maintain good personal hygiene, adopt healthy lifestyle habits, and support both physical and mental well-being. If any discomfort occurs, seek medical attention promptly.
