Disease description:

My husband and I have been married for over a year, but I haven't become pregnant yet. We went to the hospital for a checkup once, but no problems were found. The doctor mentioned that it might be because we aren't accurately tracking our ovulation period. Could you please explain what the ovulation period means?

Dr. Zhang Lu

Ovulation is an important phase in the female menstrual cycle, marking the process by which the egg cell, along with its surrounding cumulus granulosa cells, is released from the ovary into the fallopian tube. This process occurs during a period spanning five days before ovulation day to four days after, including ovulation day itself. After ovulation, the egg can survive within the fallopian tube for one to two days, awaiting fertilization by sperm. During this time, women may experience a range of physiological changes, such as a slight decrease in appetite, unusually high energy levels, increased libido, and temporary weakening of the immune system.

In addition, some women may experience symptoms such as rectal pressure, lower abdominal pain on one side, increased vaginal discharge, or even spotting during ovulation. These symptoms are natural bodily changes occurring during the ovulatory phase as the body adapts to reproductive demands. If discomfort is experienced, medical attention should be sought promptly.
