What are the causes of pelvic effusion?
Disease description:
I've recently been experiencing mild abdominal pain, and after going to the hospital for a checkup, I was found to have pelvic fluid accumulation. I would like to know what causes pelvic fluid accumulation?
There are various causes of pelvic effusion, primarily including the following:
1. Infectious factors: Infectious diseases such as pelvic inflammatory disease and cervicitis may lead to infection within the pelvic cavity, subsequently causing fluid accumulation. In addition, unhygienic sexual practices, early onset of sexual activity, and having multiple sexual partners can increase the risk of invasion by pathogens causing sexually transmitted infections, leading to pelvic effusion.
2. Surgery and trauma: Gynecological procedures such as curettage and hysterosalpingography may result in infection if sterilization is inadequate or postoperative care is improper, thus causing pelvic effusion. Infections following childbirth or abortion are also common causes.
3. Physiological factors: During menstruation, a small amount of menstrual blood may flow into the pelvic cavity, resulting in physiological pelvic effusion. Additionally, during ovulation, follicular fluid released after follicle rupture may also accumulate in the pelvis, forming a certain amount of fluid.
4. Other factors: Rupture of ovarian cysts, endometriosis, and ruptured ectopic pregnancy may also lead to pelvic effusion.
In summary, the causes of pelvic effusion are complex and varied, requiring diagnosis and treatment based on specific symptoms and examination results.
