What does Nabothian cyst mean?
Disease description:
Recently, I've been experiencing very severe abdominal pain during each menstrual period. After a gynecological examination at the hospital, I was diagnosed with Nabothian cyst. The doctor suggested that I observe it for a while and that no treatment is currently necessary. I would like to know what a Nabothian cyst means?
Nabothian cysts, also known as cervical glandular cysts, are cystic formations resulting from the retention of cervical gland secretions within the cervix. This condition is typically a result of physiological changes and is particularly common in females during adolescence and reproductive years. During the outward extension of the cervical epithelium, the openings of cervical glands may become obstructed, preventing secretions from draining properly and leading to their accumulation within the tissue, thus forming cysts. Additionally, cervicitis may cause passive blockage of the cervical gland orifices, contributing to cyst formation. Nabothian cysts are generally small and scattered, sometimes protruding from the surface of the cervix. Small cysts may be only grain-sized, while larger ones can reach the size of a corn kernel, appearing pale white or bluish, and may be associated with cervical erosion. If a cyst undergoes torsion of its stalk, women may experience severe abdominal pain, bloating, difficulty breathing, and other symptoms.
