Characteristics of precocious puberty: Female characteristics: 1. Early menarche: girls experience menarche before age 8. 2. Breast development: premature breast development, typically occurring before age 8. 3. Premature pubic hair: girls develop pubic and underarm hair around ages 4–8. 4. Growth acceleration: significant increase in height and weight before puberty compared to peers, but may later result in shorter stature due to premature closure of growth plates. Male characteristics: 1. Voice change onset: boys experience voice deepening before age 9. 2. Testicular enlargement: accompanied by scrotal skin thickening, increased pigmentation, penile thickening and lengthening. 3. Growth of underarm hair and beard: prominent Adam's apple, deeper voice, increased body hair density, and appearance of facial hair.
