The early symptoms of colorectal polyps mainly include the following: 1. Abnormal bowel movements: Some patients may notice blood on the surface of their stool, which typically results from friction against the polyp during defecation. 2. Abdominal pain: About 50% of patients with colorectal polyps experience abdominal pain, usually located in the middle abdomen or around the navel. The pain is often intermittent, manifesting as dull ache, bloating, or cramping, and may slightly improve after meals. 3. Rectal bleeding: Approximately one-quarter of patients may develop gastrointestinal bleeding, presenting as intermittent black stools (melena) or occult blood in the stool. 4. Bowel disturbances: Some patients may experience constipation, diarrhea, or alternating episodes of both due to polyp-induced partial obstruction of the intestinal lumen; in severe cases, intestinal obstruction may occur. Once any of these symptoms appear, prompt medical evaluation is essential for early detection and treatment of colorectal polyps, thereby reducing the risk of malignant transformation.
