Symptoms of colorectal polyps mainly include the following: 1. Rectal bleeding: Patients with colorectal polyps often experience rectal bleeding, especially those with sigmoid or rectal polyps. The blood in stool is typically bright red, and significant blood loss may lead to anemia. 2. Changes in bowel habits: Polyps may cause diarrhea or constipation, sometimes alternating between the two. A sensation of incomplete evacuation after defecation may also occur. 3. Abdominal pain: Colorectal polyps can cause abdominal discomfort or dull pain. When polyps are large or numerous, intussusception may occur, leading to symptoms of intestinal obstruction. 4. Abnormal stool shape: Polyps within the colon lumen may compress the passing stool, resulting in narrower or flattened stools, which may occasionally be streaked with blood. 5. Other symptoms: These include dizziness, tinnitus, and pale appearance, as well as pigmented spots on the palms, fingers, toes, and other areas—commonly seen in Peutz-Jeghers (P-J) syndrome. If any of the above symptoms occur, it is recommended to seek medical evaluation promptly for early detection and treatment of colorectal polyps.
