There are clear differences between skin welts caused by mosquito bites and those caused by allergies in several aspects. In terms of etiology, mosquito bites result from the injection of mosquito saliva or venom into the skin, whereas allergic reactions occur due to the body's hypersensitivity response after exposure to an allergen. Regarding symptoms, welts from mosquito bites typically present as redness, swelling, and itching, possibly accompanied by papules or urticarial lesions. In contrast, welts caused by allergies may exhibit various manifestations such as erythema, papules, urticaria, and edema, and in severe cases, skin erosion may occur. Treatment approaches also differ. Mosquito bite reactions are commonly treated with calamine lotion or mometasone furoate cream, while allergic welts may require oral antihistamines such as loratadine tablets or levocetirizine hydrochloride tablets to control the allergic response. By observing the underlying cause, clinical symptoms, and response to treatment, it is possible to accurately differentiate between skin welts caused by mosquito bites and those caused by allergies.
