Common causes of frequent parotid gland swelling in children

There are various causes of frequent parotid gland swelling in children, mainly including the following: 1. Mumps: This is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by the mumps virus, commonly seen in children aged 5–15 years. After viral infection, children may experience symptoms such as parotid gland swelling, pain, and fever. 2. Trauma: If the parotid area frequently suffers from external impact or injury, it may damage local soft tissues, leading to rupture and bleeding of subcutaneous capillaries, thus causing local swelling and pain. 3. Lymphadenitis: When pathogens invade the body through the skin, mucous membranes, or nearby infectious foci, they may trigger lymphadenitis, resulting in swollen and painful lymph nodes in the parotid region. 4. Oral problems: Dental conditions such as dental caries and pericoronitis of wisdom teeth can also lead to parotid gland swelling due to bacterial irritation of local tissues. 5.
