Smegma may lead to orchitis. Smegma primarily results from poor genital hygiene, especially in men with phimosis (overly long foreskin), which creates an environment conducive to bacterial growth and can trigger balanoposthitis. If the inflammation is not promptly controlled, bacteria may ascend through the reproductive tract and cause infections such as prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, and epididymitis, which could subsequently lead to orchitis. Therefore, maintaining good personal hygiene, particularly cleanliness of the genital area, is crucial in preventing smegma and associated male reproductive system infections like orchitis.
