Can male urethral pain heal on its own?

Disease description:

I've had a stinging pain in my urethra when urinating these past few days. I didn't think it was serious and assumed it might resolve on its own. Could you please tell me whether urethral pain in men can heal spontaneously?

Male urethral pain may resolve on its own, but the specific outcome depends on the underlying cause and severity of symptoms. Urethral pain can be caused by various factors, such as urinary tract stones, urinary tract infections (UTIs), prostatitis, and others. For brief episodes of pain caused by urinary stones, increasing fluid intake and urination may help expel the stone, leading to spontaneous symptom relief. Mild, short-term urethral discomfort lasting less than 72 hours and gradually improving may indicate self-resolution. However, if the pain persists or worsens beyond 72 hours, it likely indicates an underlying medical condition requiring professional treatment. For cases that may resolve spontaneously, measures such as drinking more water, getting adequate rest, and maintaining good genital hygiene may be helpful. However, when urethral pain is caused by conditions like UTIs or prostatitis, medical treatment under a doctor's guidance is necessary.
