What is the difference between bronchitis and pneumonia in children?
Disease description:
My son has been coughing quite severely these past few days, and today he developed a fever. I'm not sure whether it's bronchitis or pneumonia. Could you please explain the difference between bronchitis and pneumonia in children?

Pediatric bronchitis and pneumonia differ significantly in several aspects:
1. Etiology: Pediatric bronchitis is mostly caused by pathogen infections or inhalation of allergens leading to inflammation of the bronchial mucosa and surrounding tissues; pneumonia, on the other hand, may result from pathogen infections, allergen inhalation, immune-mediated injury, and other factors causing lung inflammation.
2. Symptoms: Main symptoms of bronchitis include cough, sputum production, and wheezing. In addition to these, pneumonia may also present with fever, chills, chest pain, and dyspnea (shortness of breath), and in severe cases, respiratory failure may occur.
3. Treatment approaches: Management of bronchitis focuses on symptomatic relief and antibiotic therapy when indicated. Pneumonia treatment requires selecting appropriate antibiotics based on the causative pathogen and may involve systemic supportive therapies.
