Symptoms of "heatiness" caused by consuming ginseng mainly include the following: 1. Bleeding symptoms: such as nosebleeds, gum bleeding, bloody stools due to constipation. This is because ginseng has functions of promoting body fluids and nourishing blood; excessive consumption may lead to blood heat and bleeding. 2. Heart-related symptoms: palpitations or irregular heartbeat may occur, related to ginseng's effect of restoring pulse and preventing collapse. Overuse may cause rapid or even markedly strong (flooding) pulse. 3. Respiratory symptoms: such as coughing up yellow phlegm, dry throat, sore throat, mouth or tongue ulcers—these are signs of internal heat resulting from high doses of ginseng used to treat lung qi deficiency. 4. Nervous system symptoms: restlessness, insomnia, and vivid dreams, reflecting mental agitation associated with ginseng’s calming and cognitive-enhancing properties when taken excessively. 5. Other symptoms: red eyes, swollen and painful gums, sore throat, oral or tongue ulcers, constipation, acne, as well as signs of dry mouth and insufficient body fluids. If any of these symptoms occur, it is recommended to discontinue ginseng use promptly and restore balance through dietary adjustments or medication.
