Can urinary tract stones cause blood in the urine?
Disease description:
During my recent physical examination, I was diagnosed with urinary tract stones. I would like to ask, can urinary tract stones cause blood in the urine?

Hematuria (blood in the urine) may occur in patients with urinary tract stones. This primarily happens because, during their movement, urinary stones may rub against the mucous membrane lining the urinary tract, causing mucosal damage and subsequent bleeding. Additionally, local infections or acute obstructions caused by the stones may also lead to bleeding. Specifically, when stones are large or have remained in the urethra for a prolonged period, their rough surfaces may scratch the urethral mucosa, resulting in hematuria. Moreover, long-term retention of stones may lead to urinary tract infections, further aggravating mucosal injury and bleeding. Therefore, when urinary tract stones are present, patients may experience hematuria and should seek timely medical treatment.
