The main causes of bronchiectasis in children include both congenital and acquired factors. 1. Congenital factors: These may result from developmental defects in bronchial cartilage or weak development of connective tissue, such as genetic diseases like cystic fibrosis, Marfan syndrome, and abnormalities in ciliary structure and function, including visceral inversion, sinusitis, and the triad of nasal polyposis. 2. Acquired factors: These are primarily caused by repeated infections and obstruction of secretions, such as measles, whooping cough, bronchiolitis, and severe pneumonia, particularly severe pneumonia caused by adenovirus infection. Additionally, asthma, immunodeficiency disorders (such as X-linked hypogammaglobulinemia, common variable immunodeficiency, and IgG subclass deficiency), foreign body obstruction, tuberculous lymphadenopathy of the bronchus, or tumor compression can also lead to bronchiectasis. If related symptoms occur, prompt medical consultation and treatment are necessary.
