How to test for trace elements in children?
Disease description:
My child is still young, but often cries during sleep and isn't growing taller. I'm worried there may be a deficiency in trace elements. Could you please tell me how to check for trace element levels in children?
The main methods for children's trace element testing include the following three:
1. **Fingerstick (capillary blood) testing**: This method is simple to perform and more acceptable to children. However, capillary blood concentration may be unstable and can be diluted due to squeezing, which may lead to inaccurate test results.
2. **Venipuncture (venous blood) testing**: Although this method is more complex and may be less acceptable to children, it provides relatively accurate and reliable results because trace elements in venous blood are more stable.
3. **Hair analysis**: Hair sampling is convenient and easy to preserve, with stable trace element content. However, it should be noted that hair has a long growth cycle and cannot reflect recent trace element levels. Additionally, prolonged exposure to air may lead to contamination, affecting the test results.
The choice of method for trace element testing should be determined based on the child's specific circumstances and the doctor's recommendations.
