Flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy and stone extraction, commonly known as flexible ureteroscopy for kidney stones, is a minimally invasive treatment. During the procedure, the physician inserts a flexible ureteroscope through the urethra, bladder, and ureter into the kidney. Under direct vision with the flexible scope, energy sources such as laser or ultrasound are used to fragment the stones into small particles, which are then either removed directly or allowed to pass out with the urine. This procedure offers advantages such as minimal trauma, rapid recovery, and fewer complications, making it suitable for most patients with kidney stones. However, it should be performed by experienced physicians. Additionally, a ureteral drainage tube is usually required postoperatively, and appropriate anti-inflammatory and hemostatic treatments should be administered.
