Why is the anus so tight?
Disease description:
Recently, I have often felt a tightness around the anal area while sitting at work, and occasionally there is also pain. What causes the tightness in the anus?
The anus being very tight may be caused by various factors. Psychological conditions such as depression and anxiety might lead to a sensation of tightness in the anal area. Prolonged sitting may also cause spasms of the anal sphincter muscles, resulting in a feeling of tightness. Additionally, anorectal and intestinal conditions such as hemorrhoids, anal sinusitis (anal cryptitis), and proctitis are common causes. Specifically, when hemorrhoids increase in size, the intestinal lumen narrows, causing difficulty with bowel movements, and straining during defecation may lead to anal tightness. Patients with anal sinusitis may feel tightness due to inflammatory irritation of the anal tissue. Individuals with proctitis may experience anal tightness due to intestinal inflammation, especially after consuming spicy or irritating foods. To relieve this symptom, it is recommended to maintain smooth bowel movements, avoid straining during defecation, adjust dietary habits, and seek timely medical attention when necessary.
