Disease description:

My husband was diagnosed with gastritis. Recently, he hasn't had much of an appetite and doesn't know which foods are suitable to eat and which should be avoided. Could you please advise what foods should not be consumed with gastritis?

Dr. Shen Yonghua
Patients with gastroenteritis should avoid the following foods to prevent worsening of their condition: 1. Spicy foods: Such as scallions, garlic, chili peppers, etc., which can stimulate gastric acid secretion, leading to symptoms such as acid reflux, heartburn, and abdominal pain. 2. Cold foods: Such as mung beans, celery, pears, etc., which may easily cause gastric spasms, exacerbate gastroenteritis, and even lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. 3. Hard foods: Very hard foods such as walnuts and nuts can irritate the gastric mucosa and are not conducive to the recovery from gastroenteritis. 4. Sweet foods: Sweets containing milk fat, such as ice cream and chocolate, are difficult to digest and may increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract. 5. High-fiber foods: Such as broccoli and cabbage, which may increase gas accumulation in the gastrointestinal tract and cause discomfort.
