Tinea corporis/cruris is a dermatophyte infection that specifically manifests as tinea corporis and tinea cruris. Tinea corporis primarily affects the skin of the trunk and limbs, excluding areas such as the scalp, palms, soles, nails, and groin. It is characterized by red, ring-shaped or polycyclic erythematous and papular lesions with clear margins covered by scales, often accompanied by itching. Tinea cruris specifically refers to dermatophyte infection occurring in the groin area, especially the inner upper thighs and skin folds. In severe cases, it may involve the abdomen and buttocks, presenting with red, elevated lesions with scaly, active edges, and the margins may be accompanied by pustules or vesicles. Tinea corporis/cruris is prevalent worldwide, particularly common in tropical regions, and can be transmitted from person to person, animal to human, and soil to human. Treatment typically includes topical antifungal medications and systemic therapy.
