What to do if you feel dizzy after Gua Sha
Disease description:
I went to see an elderly TCM practitioner today to receive Gua Sha for removing excess dampness from my body due to excessive dampness. What should I do if I feel dizzy after the Gua Sha treatment?
Dizziness after Gua Sha (scraping therapy) may be caused by various factors, including improper scraping, mental tension, hypotension, hypoglycemia, and catching a chill. The following are some management measures:
1. Rest and relax: It is recommended to lie down and rest in a supine position, loosen buttons and belts, and avoid strenuous activities and excessive fatigue.
2. Rehydrate and replenish nutrients: Drink some warm water or brown sugar water appropriately to restore strength and hydration. If possible, consume some easily digestible food.
3. Monitor and seek medical advice: If dizziness persists or worsens, it is advisable to seek timely medical attention to determine the exact cause of dizziness and receive targeted treatment.
Please note that although Gua Sha is a traditional Chinese therapy, its potential risks should still be considered during application. It should especially be used with caution in special populations, such as pregnant women and the elderly, and should be performed under a doctor's guidance.
