Why do I often feel dry mouth and throat?
Disease description:
I always have a dry mouth, with chapped lips, and I feel thirsty. After drinking water, I immediately feel dryness again. I would like to ask, why do I constantly experience dry mouth and throat?
Dry mouth is a common symptom that can be caused by various factors.
It may result from improper dietary habits, such as excessive intake of salt, spicy foods, sugar, and caffeine, as these substances can stimulate the body to produce more urine, leading to dehydration. Environmental factors, such as dry or hot environments—for instance, desert areas or prolonged time spent in air-conditioned rooms—can also cause dry mouth. Additionally, certain medications, including antidepressants, antihistamines, and diuretics, may have side effects that reduce body fluids. Some medical conditions, such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, and Sjögren's syndrome, can also contribute to dry mouth.
To alleviate symptoms of dry mouth, a comprehensive approach addressing diet, environment, and medication is recommended, and medical attention should be sought when necessary.
