Disease description:

A colleague was hospitalized today due to feeling unwell. This afternoon we went to visit him and learned that he has late-stage nasopharyngeal cancer. I would like to know what the symptoms of late-stage nasopharyngeal cancer are.

The symptoms of advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma are diverse and significant, mainly including: 1. Cervical lymph node enlargement: In advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma, tumors often metastasize to cervical lymph nodes, causing swelling with a high incidence rate of up to 79.37%. The swelling may appear unilaterally or bilaterally, feel hard in texture, and become fixed due to adhesion with surrounding tissues in later stages. 2. Ocular symptoms: If the tumor invades the orbit or affects nerves related to the eye, patients may experience visual impairments, blindness, visual field defects, diplopia (double vision), proptosis (bulging eyes), and restricted eye movement. 3. Cranial nerve damage: As the tumor infiltrates surrounding areas, it may compress cranial nerves, leading to symptoms such as headache, facial numbness, diplopia, decreased vision, ptosis (drooping eyelids), difficulty swallowing, and hoarseness. 4. Distant metastasis symptoms: In advanced stages, nasopharyngeal carcinoma may metastasize to various parts of the body, such as the bones, liver, and lungs, causing corresponding symptoms including pain, coughing, and abdominal pain. If any related symptoms occur, prompt medical consultation, examination, and treatment are necessary.
