Dr. Wang Xiaoyan
Although tincture of iodine has a disinfecting effect on the skin surface, it cannot directly treat folliculitis and therefore is not recommended for the treatment of folliculitis. 1. Effect of tincture of iodine: Although tincture of iodine has disinfecting and antibacterial properties and can inhibit bacteria on the skin surface to some extent, once pustules caused by folliculitis rupture, applying tincture of iodine may cause irritative reactions, such as redness, swelling, and stinging. 2. Characteristics of folliculitis: Folliculitis is usually caused by pathogenic organisms invading the hair follicles. The components of tincture of iodine cannot directly penetrate into the hair follicles and thus have no direct therapeutic effect on the pathogens causing folliculitis. 3. Treatment recommendations: Treatment of folliculitis should be based on its underlying cause, with appropriate medications selected accordingly. For example, bacterial folliculitis can be treated with antibiotic medications, while fungal folliculitis is recommended to be treated with antifungal drugs.
