Can preserved egg (pi dan) treat toothache?
Recently, I have been experiencing tooth pain. A friend told me that eating preserved eggs (pi dan) can treat toothaches, so I would like to know whether preserved eggs can indeed help alleviate tooth pain?
Although preserved egg is considered in traditional Chinese medicine theory to have effects of clearing heat, cooling blood, and reducing fire toxicity, it cannot treat toothache. Toothache has complex and varied causes, possibly resulting from diseases such as pulpitis or periodontitis, and in these cases, consuming preserved egg has no significant effect. Although components such as calcium and protein in preserved eggs can contribute to dental health, they cannot replace standard medical treatments. Moreover, preserved eggs contain relatively high levels of fat and cholesterol, and excessive consumption may increase risks to oral health. Therefore, for individuals experiencing toothache, it is essential to seek professional dental treatment, maintain good oral hygiene, and follow a healthy diet, rather than relying solely on eating preserved eggs or similar foods to alleviate pain.
