What does multiple intestinal polyps mean?
Disease description:
Our organization arranged a physical examination yesterday, and I had a colonoscopy. The doctor told me I have multiple colonic polyps. What does "multiple colonic polyps" mean?
Multiple colonic polyps refer to two or more polyps protruding from the surface of the intestinal mucosa into the intestinal lumen. This condition may be caused by factors such as genetic predisposition and chronic inflammatory stimulation, and may lead to symptoms including abdominal distension, changes in bowel habits, increased frequency of defecation, mucus-filled stools, and blood in the stool. If left untreated, the increasing number and size of polyps may further lead to slowed intestinal motility, intestinal obstruction, abdominal pain, and other complications. Treatment methods include general management, pharmacological treatments such as administration of antibiotics and analgesics, and surgical interventions such as endoscopic polypectomy and partial resection of the intestine. Patients need to undergo regular colonoscopies to monitor disease progression and develop healthy lifestyle habits to promote recovery.
