Disease description:

No one in our family has had leukemia, but my daughter was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Could you please tell me what causes acute myeloid leukemia?

Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Liu Feng
The causes of acute myeloid leukemia can be mainly attributed to the following factors: 1. Genetic factors: Genetic mutations or chromosomal abnormalities are important pathogenic factors. For example, patients with Down syndrome have a higher probability of developing acute myeloid leukemia. 2. Environmental factors: Long-term exposure to radiation and toxic chemical substances (such as benzene and its derivatives) may cause chromosomal abnormalities and thereby increase the risk of developing the disease. 3. Immune system dysfunction: Some studies indicate that dysfunction of the immune system may lead to malignant transformation of cells and development of myeloid leukemia. 4. Previous hematologic disorders: Conditions such as myeloproliferative neoplasms may induce acute myeloid leukemia.
