What does it mean if neutrophils are elevated?
Disease description:
I usually have regular physical examinations. The results of this checkup showed a high neutrophil count. What does an elevated neutrophil level indicate?

Neutrophilia is usually caused by various factors, mainly including the following:
1. Infections: Particularly bacterial infections, such as acute infectious diseases (acute pharyngitis, acute tonsillitis, sinusitis, etc.), are the most common causes of elevated neutrophil levels. Additionally, secondary bacterial infections during the later stages of viral infections may also lead to increased neutrophil counts.
2. Stress responses: When the body faces stress stimuli such as surgery or trauma, the immune system is activated, which may result in an increase in neutrophils.
3. Medications: Certain drugs, such as antibiotics, may stimulate bone marrow hematopoietic function and increase neutrophil production.
4. Underlying diseases: Leukemia, myeloproliferative disorders (e.g., myelodysplastic syndromes), and malignant tumors may also cause elevated neutrophil levels.
If this condition occurs, it is recommended to consult a doctor for further examination and treatment.
