Disease description:

My child has recently had a persistent fever that won't subside, and his/her face appears very pale. The hospital diagnosed him/her with acute leukemia. May I ask, what should be done for acute leukemia?

Dr. Liu Feng
Acute leukemia is a severe blood disorder that requires prompt and effective treatment measures: 1. Anti-leukemia therapy: Induction remission treatment is conducted using combination chemotherapy regimens such as VP, DVP, and IA. After achieving complete remission, post-remission treatment is continued with immunosuppressive agents and cytotoxic drugs. 2. Supportive therapy: For patients with a high number of leukemia cells in the blood, leukapheresis may be used to remove these cells, along with adjunctive chemotherapy. Patients with infections should receive appropriate antibiotic treatment, while those with anemia or bleeding complications should receive blood transfusions. Liver and kidney function should be protected, and adequate nutritional support maintained. 3. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: This may be considered as a treatment option for patients in good general condition. The specific treatment plan should be formulated according to the individual patient's condition and the physician's recommendations.
