Dr. Xiao Ning
The side effects of radiotherapy for lung cancer can be categorized into early and late reactions based on their nature, and the time required for their resolution varies depending on the type of reaction and how the patient is managed. Early reactions, such as redness and swelling of the skin, skin erosion, and oral mucosal erosion, are generally mild and acute in onset. With standardized medication and symptomatic management, these reactions typically subside gradually within 1 to 3 months. Late reactions, such as skin fibrosis and pulmonary fibrosis, tend to last longer. With proactive management, these reactions generally improve substantially within about 6 months. However, if the patient does not receive active treatment and develops severe pulmonary fibrosis with declining lung function, these reactions may persist indefinitely. To reduce and shorten the duration of side effects, patients should undergo standardized treatment and active care under a physician's guidance.
