Dr. Liu Feng
High blood count usually refers to a white blood cell (WBC) count that exceeds the normal range in a complete blood count (CBC) test. The normal WBC range is generally (4–10) × 10⁹/L; values above this are considered elevated. The severity of an elevated blood count depends on its underlying cause. Physiological increases, such as those due to pregnancy or intense physical activity, are usually not serious. However, pathological increases caused by infections, tissue damage, or malignant diseases may be more severe and require prompt treatment. For example, infections can rapidly raise the WBC count and may be accompanied by conditions such as liver abscess or lung abscess. In severe cases, infectious shock may occur. Therefore, determining the severity of an elevated blood count requires identifying the specific underlying cause. Timely medical consultation is recommended for accurate diagnosis and treatment.
