Can ichthammol ointment be used for folliculitis?
Disease description:
This morning when I woke up, I felt some pain on my face. After checking in the mirror, I found out that I had developed folliculitis. I happened to have some ichthammol ointment at home; can I use it?

Furunculosis should not be treated with ichthammol ointment. Furunculosis is a skin inflammation caused by pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi, whereas ichthammol ointment primarily functions to soften hard tissues, disperse nodules, and draw out pus. It is clinically used mainly for the treatment of infectious or hypertrophic skin conditions such as boils, but is not suitable for treating furunculosis. Therefore, patients with furunculosis should follow medical advice to select other appropriate antibiotic ointments for treatment, such as neomycin flumethasone ointment, mupirocin ointment, or fusidic acid ointment. If needed, please consult a healthcare professional.
